My name is Jamileth, I am 12 years old, and am one of the more than 200 thousand U.S. citizen children facing the threat of family separation as a result of President Trump’s decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

I am the daughter of two hard-working TPS holders.  My parents work long hours – often two jobs each – to provide for our family.  They are active members of our community and have set down roots in our home state of New Jersey.

Many people have heard about TPS ending, but do they really know what it is like to be a TPS holder in this situation and be told to leave the place they have come to call home? I do.  My family has experienced sadness, fear, and stress at the thought of being separated.  I have lost sleep thinking about my mom not being there to pick me up from school or not having my dad to keep me safe.

My parents have done so much for me and now I am doing something for them. Today, I am joining my mother on the #TPSJourney4Justice.  The journey started today at Los Angeles City Hall and will take TPS families, like mine, across the country, from city to city, and town to town, to connect our voices and to show that we will not give in to fear.

Mi nombre es Jamileth, tengo 12 años y soy uno de los más de 200 mil niños ciudadanos de los EE. UU. Que enfrentan la amenaza de la separación familiar como resultado de la decisión del presidente Trump de terminar el estado de protección temporal (TPS).

Soy hija de dos portadores de TPS que trabajan duro. Mis padres trabajan largas horas, a menudo dos trabajos cada uno, para mantener a nuestra familia. Son miembros activos de nuestra comunidad y han echado raíces en nuestro estado natal de Nueva Jersey.

Muchas personas han escuchado sobre el final del TPS, pero ¿realmente saben lo que es ser un titular del TPS en esta situación y se les dice que abandonen el lugar al que han venido a llamar? Hago. Mi familia ha experimentado tristeza, miedo y estrés ante la idea de estar separados. He perdido el sueño pensando en que mi madre no estaba allí para recogerme de la escuela o que mi padre no me protegiera.

Mis padres han hecho mucho por mí y ahora estoy haciendo algo por ellos. Hoy me uno a mi madre en la # TPSJourney4Justice. El viaje comenzó hoy en el ayuntamiento de Los Ángeles y llevará a las familias de TPS, como la mía, a todo el país, de ciudad en ciudad, y de ciudad en ciudad, para conectar nuestras voces y mostrar que no nos rendiremos ante el miedo.
