TPS Alliance Responds to Re-introduction of SECURE Act

Watch Press Call with TPS Holders & Senator Van Hollen

Nationwide- Today, US Senator Chris Van Hollen officially re-introduced the Secure Act. This bill would provide a path to citizenship to more than 400,000 beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status.

In response to the recent news, members of the National TPS Alliance made the following remarks:

“I am the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit led by TPS families challenging the Trump Administration’s racist and anti-immigrant attempts to tear more than 275,000 US citizen children from their parents. For too long we have been pawns in other people’s agendas even after we fought tirelessly in the federal courts, marched on Washington, and lobbied congress to get to this point. Now it is time for congress to utilize any and all legislative vehicles which would guarantee our families a Permanent Residency.”-Crista Ramos, Daughter of TPS Holders, Lead Plaintiff in Ramos v. Nielsen case

“We applaud Senator Van Hollen for being a champion of our struggle since the very beginning and for continuing to recognize the urgency for congress to take immediate action for TPS families.”-Mardoel Hernandez, TPS Holder of Rockville, Maryland

“We have been waiting for almost 20 years. Now is the time for congress to take action on our long awaited permanent residency. We have started families, own homes, own businesses, and many of us have been the backbone of this country as frontline workers in the midst of a global pandemic. The contributions we have made are not temporary. We deserve a permanent residency.”-Concepcion Morales, TPS Holder of Baltimore, Maryland
