TPS Alliance Response to House Democrats’ Latest call for Inclusion of Green Cards in Final Build Back Better Deal

(Boston) Today, a group of House Democrats including Representatives Chuy Garcia (Ill.), Adriano Espaillat (N.Y.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), joined a rally on Capitol Hill urging Senate Leadership to ignore the parliamentarian’s decision and include green cards in the final Build Back Better Legislative Budget package. In response to the latest effort from House Democrats, Julio Perez issued the following statement on behalf of the National TPS Alliance:

“We have already said that if a parole status is all congress can guarantee this year, then they must stop playing games and get it done. If there is still an opportunity to guarantee permanent residency this year; either through reconciliation or by successfully overriding the parliamentarian’s decision, we will continue to urge congress to stop playing games and get it done! We are aware of the divisions being imposed on us from the very top; divisions which appear to be a part of an orchestrated plan for Democratic leaders to have an excuse for their imminent failure. We can no longer allow Democrats to once again leave us empty handed. At this point, failure to deliver protections for migrants cannot be an option!”– Julio Perez, TPS Holder, Executive Committee member of the National TPS Alliance
