TPS Holders and Allies to Hold Vigils Nationwide as Trump Administration asks Supreme Court to strip Protection from Venezuelan TPS holders

WHAT:
More than a dozen vigils will take place across the country this Thursday, May 8, 2025, organized by the National TPS Alliance, Venezuelan American Caucus, Casa Venezuela, and other organizations to respond to continued attacks on the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program and to uplift the unity, love, and resilience of TPS communities.

These vigils are a coordinated show of strength, solidarity, and determination as the TPS community awaits al decision from the Supreme Court on the Trump Administration’s request for a stay of the district court’s order in NTPSA v. Noem, which has preserved Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 350,000 Venezuelan immigrants who are unable to safely return to Venezuela.  If the Supreme Court grants a stay, Venezuelan TPS holders who first registered for TPS in 2023 will immediately be stripped of lawful status and face the prospect of deportation.

WHO:
TPS holders, immigrant leaders, allies, legal experts, and faith and community organizations will participate in and speak at the vigils.

WHY:
For the past eight years, the TPS community has fought tirelessly to defend their rights and families—facing down racist, anti-immigrant efforts to end the program and calling for long-overdue permanent residency. The vigils are a continuation of this resistance, representing 20+ years of grassroots organizing, legal battles, and community care.

These gatherings demonstrate that when the government attacks our communities, we respond with unity. We come together in light and love to show the strength, humanity, and enduring commitment of TPSianos across the country.
